The following pictures conclude my series on Pakistan. Many more will appear in book 8.

butchering in the street
I witnessed this activity in one of the towns en route to Hunza.

carrots for sale
This picture appealed to me for the colour and unusual subject matter.

selling the meat (and heads) of yaks
People often wondered why I took photographs of what they considered commonplace items.

colourful houses in Shandur Pass

A feature of this area, gaily decorated houses added colour to the drab surroundings and frozen lake.

Living conditions at the top of the pass were harsh; even washing reflected the dull environs, and there appeared to be little fodder for the cattle.

more pictures from Pakistan

stark mountains through the cracked windscreen
The barren mountains often displayed a wealth of colour.

a glimpse of the stunning scenery
Except for the wires, this scene had everything: snow-capped mountains, autumn foliage, and a rustic bridge crossing the glorious blue Mastuj River.

typical cluttered shop and a congested corner in the mountain town of Chitral, Pakistan

Every conceivable item, from hardware to high fashion, was for sale in the markets; I even saw shoes made of silver.

Often appearing chaotic, most things worked with precision, and the colour was almost overwhelming.

I am concluding my pictures from book 2 with a pretty wide-eyed girl and a series of engrossing scenes taken in the fetish market of Togo, West Africa
